The first “for women only” Sporting Clays shoot in America was a success at Champion Lake Gun Club on Saturday as 96 competitors ranging from teen-agers to grandmothers blasted away at 50 targets each in the first Ladies Charity Shoot.

About $3,500 was raised for the Houston Area Women’s Center for abused women and children.

Houston shooting instructor, Sue King, practiced what she teaches and shot a sizzling score of 46 X 50 to win the high overall prize of a Browning over-under Sporting Clays gun.

Vicki Ash was second overall and won Class AA after a shoot-off with Vicki Trahan.

Winner of Class A with 34 X 50 was B.J. Wilson who prevailed in a tiebreaker with Joan Corder and Carol O’Day.

Peggy Cole won a four-way shoot-off of 26’s to take Class B.

In Class C, Jane Steel beat Gail Whitman in a shoot-off of 16’s.

The team event was won by mother and daughter Ann and Tiffany Fields with 82 X 100.
