Why Join and FAQ's

How do I join?

Joining the Lady Clay Shooters is as easy as busting a “soft” target!  Just join our email list at the JOIN tab and you will receive a personal reply from one of our board members.  If you have additional questions, you may contact Barbara Garney at (281) 851-2671 or Karen Ward at (713) 962-3207.

What equipment do I need?

Eye and ear protection is required at all times on the range for all shooters and spectators.  Most gun ranges will have inexpensive ear plugs available, and your regular sunglasses or glasses will serve for eye protection.  Of course, you will also need a shotgun and ammunition.  If you do not own your own shotgun, some ranges have rental guns available.  Check the range website that you are visiting to learn if rental guns are available and to make sure you have the appropriate ammunition for the range.

What if I am a beginner?

If you are a beginner, you are just the person we are looking for!  Our spring and summer leagues are 76 targets nightly.  This is a great way to start out and build up stamina. Our group is very approachable and someone will gladly take you under their wing and show you the ropes.  We will teach you shooting etiquette, gun safety, and even give you some tips on smashing clays.  We like to say, “If you are new to the group, you won’t be for long!”

What if I am experienced?

While we welcome and encourage beginners, we also have a spot for you!  Many of our ladies compete in charity and registered NSCA events.  We are proud to say that some of our ladies have been named to the All-American Team. Becoming a Lady Clay Shooter is a great way to meet other ladies that shoot competitively and to find a shooting partner.  It is always fun to see each other at events, practice target presentations, and visit new ranges around the state.

Can I come and observe?

Absolutely!  We always welcome new shooters and spectators.  Remember, eye and ear protection is required for everyone out on the course.  But this comes with a WARNING!  Once you come visit, you WILL want to join us!

What can I expect at a shoot?

Fun, fun, & more fun!  Prior to the shoot, you will find women milling around with their shotguns, clay carts buzzing about, laughter, and a sense of excitement in the air.  If you let us know ahead of time, we will have someone on the look-out for you and make sure you are squadded with seasoned shooters.  Our board members are easy to spot in our lime-green shirts.  They, along with other members will be more than happy to welcome you, teach you the routines and proper shooting etiquette, and even give you a few tips.  Remember, we were all new to this at one time.  Our goal is make you feel welcome and to have you return again and again.

How often do you meet? Is there a membership fee?

We do not hold structured monthly meetings, nor do we charge for membership. We publish a calendar of events.  We welcome you to participate in as many of these events as you like. Members also get together informally to practice and shoot in other shoots that are not hosted by the Lady Clay Shooters.

Is there a minimum age?

Lady Clay Shooters welcomes sub-junior shooters under the age of 16 and junior shooters between the ages of 16 and 21.  We ask that all shooters are able to load and handle the gun in a safe manner and are willing to attempt targets.  If you are new to the sport, low-cost instruction is available prior to our event.

Do you keep my information private?

Lady Clay Shooters keeps your information private and does not share our database with anyone.  Your privacy is important to us!

We are a very approachable and welcoming group of women. Many have become close friends and go on to extend their friendships outside of shooting.

Our members are a diverse group of ladies coming from all walks of life and skill levels. We range in age from sub-junior teens to mature veteran shooters.

We are well-informed about the guns we shoot, the equipment needed to keep our firearms running well, scoring, and rules for safety and protection.

In addition to shooting charity and NSCA events, we also host a variety of shoots, offer low cost shooting instruction and provide equipment care and maintenance workshops.

We believe that safety is everyone’s responsibility. Instruction and safety are presented in a non-threatening, encouraging way.

We live in an area that caters to the sport of clay shooting. We’ve got it…from private gun clubs to public ranges, gun retailers & fitters, ammo & protection suppliers, and instructors.

If you are competitive in nature, we encourage you to join us! Our ladies shoot charity and NSCA events and some have even been named to the NSCA All American Team.

Our organization is low maintenance! Participate as much or as little as you like. It’s your call. No Meetings! No Dues! Just Fun!
